Ally Pally is located in the huge Alexandra Park, which has been providing a tranquil haven to the public since 1863. The palace itself opened its ornamental doors ten years later in 1873 and ever since the location has become a popular attraction, musical venue and place to get involved with lots of recreational activities. Council figures show that over one million people travel to the site in the north London borough of Haringey every year to enjoy the many facilities on offer.
The cultural venue is so historically valued that in 1996 the buildings were given a Grade II listing to preserve them. The elegant building features soaring atrium ceilings supported by ornamental columns, and a magnificent rose window that was replaced in the 1940s when it was destroyed in World War II. Standing near to the main entrance is another eye-catching feature of Ally Pally, which is the towering antenna used by the BBC for the world’s first television transmissions and is still used today for some programmes.
Ally Pally really is one of the most versatile venues you can find in London. Because the site is so large, there are lots of different spaces, that are ideal for our furniture hire customers looking to arrange both big and small events, as well as corporate and private occasions. The palace’s Great Hall is ideal for large conferences, shows, parties and performances, with some top names performing here in recent years, such as the Rolling Stones and many other famous acts. Elaborate architecture brings a sense of elegance to the room that is suitable for up to 10,400 people when it’s used as an auditorium, 3,000 for conferences that have classroom-style seating and up to 7,250 for receptions.
Another very spacious venue is the West Hall that offers a large area for many different occasions including product launches, dinner and dances, as well as conferences. Up to 2,500 can comfortably sit in theatre-style conference seating, while there is a 2,000 person capacity for banquets and dances. The Panorama Room is a fantastic choice when you’re looking for an ornately designed location that has outstanding views. Located at the front of the building, this room looks out towards the city and is an amazing backdrop to any wedding, banquet, dinner and corporate function, with a seating capacity of 400 to 800 people.
If you’re looking for a venue that’s a little bit more intimate then there are many other rooms available that are perfect for corporate meetings and private functions too. The Londesborough Room features ornate wall columns and paintings in an Italian renaissance style, perfectly complementing sophisticated banquets and private parties for 170 seated guests. Another magical location is the Palace Suite that is similarly decorated and brings luxury and class to celebrations for up to 360 seated people. For more corporate occasions, such as boardroom meetings, conferences and shows, there are a host of other rooms that have a capacity for up to 50 guests that are sitting and more for those standing. The Bar and Kitchen is a fantastic location for just enjoying some top quality food as a small group or part of a larger party. The restaurant has a great wine list, tasty dishes and childrens menu available for parties of up to 250 people.
The elegant design of Ally Pally makes it an outstanding venue for the architecture alone, but the People’s Palace doesn’t just have beautiful buildings to boast about. The parkland surrounding the venue is vast and varied, making it a venue where you can enjoy shows, events, top quality food and drink then bask in the sunshine as you take in the views of the capital’s skyline. There are also many activities that you can get involved in, both as part of a day out with your family or during corporate away days and team bonding sessions.
The grounds of Alexandra Palace are home to a pitch and putt course, a boating lake, deer enclosure, children’s play park and several cafes. The Lakeside Cafe serves a great range of snacks and drinks right bedside the boating lake, while the sedate location of the Grove is a peaceful location to tuck into the Italian food on offer. There’s also an on-site garden centre and a separate rose garden that was first planted by WWI prisoners of war that were housed in the palace at this time. You can enjoy more of the great outdoors spotting deer in the special enclosure or navigating the lake via pedal powered boats.
When you looking for a venue with great photo opportunities, this offers possibly the best views across the city with many major landmarks visible. Once you’ve enjoyed the views then the surrounding parkland has much to offer, showing that this is a venue that really does have something for everyone!
