Last Thursday, Furniture Hire UK supplied over 2000 items of furniture for the mayoral elections in London. In last week's elections over a million Londoners turned out to vote in the mayoral elections, which saw Labour’s Ken Livingstone up against the Conservative candidate Boris Johnson – and Furniture Hire UK were there to make sure that the huge vote counting venues at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre in the Docklands and at Olympia in South West London were equipped for the challenge of counting the 1.5m plus votes! We supplied nearly a five hundred of our folding tables, as well as hundreds of stretch barriers and office chairs to each venue – making it a huge logistical exercise. To put it in perspective, we supplied well over 2000 items to the voting centres, which required two of our newly acquired 17 tonne articulated lorries (pictured) and several of our core fleet of 7.5 lorries. Over thirty members of our installation team worked tirelessly on the installation to insure that our furniture was installed to our client’s precise requirements out in less than four hours – for Furniture Hire UK, no job is too small! The vote counting process looked to us like an incredibly complex operation - there hundreds of officials at each venue and dozens of specialised vote counting machines. Our folding tables were set out to allow the officials at the event adequate space to work, and interspersed between these temporary workstations were the vote counting machines. Our stretch barriers ensured that the officials working on the count were able to work in a clearly defined area, and helped manage the flow of people through the two venues. It was great to see our furniture on television on Thursday and Friday, as news reports showed the vote counting venues as the night progressed. We’ve shown some of the photos of the event on this page – we’re sure you’ll agree that our furniture looks great in the venues! We'd personally like to give a saywell done to all of the Furniture Hire UK team that made this complex installation a great success!
